Cohera Medical’s products are based on a unique chemical design that is resorbable, biocompatible for internal use, and uses no human or animal based ingredients. The Company’s lead product, TissuGlu® Surgical Adhesive, is a single part adhesive that forms a strong bond between tissues. TissuGlu approximates tissue layers where subcutaneous deadspace exists between the tissue planes in abdominoplasty, and is currently approved for sale in the EU and U.S. markets. Cohera’s researchers designed TissuGlu to help surgeons improve outcomes and eliminate the need for surgical drains.
Cohera Medical’s scientific leaders continue to explore new clinical applications for the company’s patented technologies, including new surgical adhesives and sealants that target other medical applications. This includes their latest innovation, Sylys® Surgical Sealant† for sealing gastrointestinal anastomoses, and a new product for hernia mesh fixation.
Sylys is designed to help reduce leakage in gastrointestinal procedures by providing additional support to the anastomosis during the first few days of healing, when the development of leaks is most likely to occur. The sealant is applied as a viscous fluid which cures rapidly to create a flexible, elastomeric seal upon application to the tissue. In-vivo, the product degrades in a few weeks and is resorbed by the body.
